History and sights of Bled

Anyone going to Slovenia must visit the tourist city of Bled, in addition to the capital Ljubljana.

Lake Bled is one of the most striking photographic settings in the world, from sunrise to sunset you will walk around its six kilometers on a pleasant trail and also climb to points for panoramic shots: the Osojnica View Point at 645 meters and the Bled Castle at dusk.

The lake's main distinguishing feature is an islet in the center housing the Church of the Mother of God, also known as the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, Our Lady of the Lake, with a beautiful bell tower.

Near Bled, 23 km away, there is the largest lake in the country, the also beautiful Bohinj, which provides a pleasant full day trip including climbing Mount Vogel using its cable car.

Another attraction is the Vintgar Gorge, a gorge 1,600 m long and 250 m deep, in the Triglav National Park, with side walkways and waterfalls.
