History and tourist attractions of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
This French commune in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is one of the most important winter resorts in Europe, with the imposing Mont Blanc in the southern part of its territory, the highest mountain in the Alps, at 4809 m above sea level.
In the city center there is a statue of Horace-Bénédict accompanied by his mountain guide Jacques Balmat, who points out the summit of Mont Blanc, where the Swiss naturalist and geologist intends to carry out experiments. He is considered by many to be the father of mountaineering.
The city's cable car is the highest in the world, connecting to the Aiguille du Midi at 3777 m, and using an elevator you can reach its summit at 3842 m above sea level, where a tower with telecommunications antennas is installed.
This mountain with just 310 m of topographic prominence, already in the Mont Blanc massif, is one of the starting points for the Vallée Blanche and the Mont Blanc Panoramic Telecabine, which crosses the Giant Glacier to the Helbronner Point on the France-Italy border, at 3642 m above sea level and from where you can see the Valle d'Aosta and the Italian region of Piedmont.
From this point you can return by going the opposite way, or go down by the SkyWay Monte Bianco cable car, to the aforementioned Italian valley, at the Courmayeur departure station.
In short, it is an unmissable experience of contact with yet another of the greatness of nature and also of engineering!
