History and sights of Kotor and Perast
The Bay of Kotor in Montenegro is another of the wonders of the Balkans, and one of its highlights is Perast and its proximity to the islets of Saint George, with a monastery, and Our Lady of the Rocks, with an Orthodox church.
Little Perast is squeezed between the highway that borders the bay and its waters, providing a pleasant walk along its only street, among beautiful buildings and restaurants, as well as boat trips to the aforementioned islets.
Continuing the journey, after about 15 minutes, at the end of the bay resembling a fjord, you will arrive in Kotor, the Pearl of Montenegro.
The historic city of Kotor (Stari Grad), with its triangular shape, medieval wall, mountains and the bay with its port make up a beautiful setting.
It's worth the effort to climb the trail to Fortaleza de São João and contemplate this scene in the late afternoon with the city lights already on.
Walking through its alleys at night is unforgettable and you will find precious relics such as: the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, completed in 1166, the Church of Saint Luke in Romanesque style from the 12th century and the Church of Saint Nicholas (Serbian Orthodox), from 1909.
